Pouring of tin into water is the Finnish custom of foretelling future for the New Year.
On 31 December people warm up tin untill it melts, and pour it melted into a cold water.
In the last days of December you can buy pieces of tin for that purpose in many shops.
The shape of tin cast can be interpreted in different ways. In pictures below there is clear head of the horse, my son's 'prophecy' for the New Year (whatever it can mean:-)

Tinan valaminen on suomalainen uudenvuoden perinne, tulevan vuoden ennustamista.
Tinan palaset voi saada monista kaupoista viimeisinä joulukuun päivinä. 31 joulukuuta tehdään tinan sulattaminen ja valaminen kylmään veteen. Tina vedessä jähmettyy nopeasti, ja sen muodoista näkee, mitä tapahtuu tulevana vuotena. Kuvissa alhaalla on selvä hevosen pää, poikanin tinan ennustus uudelle vuodelle. Onnellista Uutta Vuotta 2012!
