minimalistic and simplistic Finnish design

I have written post about the Finnish Art Nouveau, but Finnish modern design is far from that style.
Modern Finnish design is predominantly minimalistic, often defined with words like clean, simplistic, linear, organic, innovative, functional, of the original styling and high-quality.
There are some Finnish brands like Marimekko , Arabia , Iittala , Aarikka , Pentik , Kalevala Koru , Hackman , which are very popular and highly appreciated. Their products are widely bought for gifts, especially for the most relevant occasions and celebrations.
I see in that subject one the examples of the cultural differences between Finland and Poland. Maybe it is rather question of taste, but its roots lie deep within the culture.
Polish design is not as definite as the Finnish one. It's generally more complex, vivid, products are more decorated, patterns more colourful, with attention to the details, and the assortment is miscellaneous.
I used to have major problem with buying souvenirs from Finland before my visits to Poland. Everyone expects something originally Finnish, but the products of the Finnish design are often underestimated, as they look so simple. Gift is expected to be more noticeable, showy.
A Finnish friend of mine, art lover and collector, has once told me, that artworks of the clear design give space for thinking and reflection. The complex artworks make us bored sooner. That's really interesting point of view.
Too sum up I can write, that for Finns often much is too much, but on the other side, for the others sometimes little can be too little ...

Moderni suomalainen muotoilu on etupäässä minimalistista. On mahdotonta olla tätä huomioimatta. Usein sitä kuvataan sanoilla yksinkertainen, selkeä, simplistinen, lineaarinen, luonnonmukainen, innovatiivinen, käytännöllinen, omaperäinen, korkealaatuinen.
Suomalaiset tuotemerkit kuin mm. Marimekko , Arabia , Iittala , Aarikka , Pentik , Kalevala Koru , Hackman ovat Suomessa erittäin hyvin tunnettuja ja suuresti arvostettuja. Heidän tuoteita ostetaan lahjaksi, varsinkin merkittävien tapahtumien tai juhlien kunniaksi.
Minusta, tämä aihe on pieni esimerkki kulttuurieroista Suomen ja Puolan välillä. Ehkä se on ennemmän makuero, kuitenkin nämä erot johtuvat kulttuurien erilaisuudesta.
Puolalainen muotoilu ei ole tosi selvästi määritelty kuin suomalainen. Puolassa pidetään enemmän koristeista ja väreistä, yksityiskohdat ovat tärkeitä ja useasti kuviot ovat monimutkaisia, tuoteiden valikoima on sekalainen. Minulla on aina ongelma ennen Puolaan menoa, kun haluan ostaa tuliaisia tai muita lahjoja. Kaikki odottavat jotain suomalaista, mutta ne suositut suomalaisen muotoilun mukaan tehdyt tuotteet, ovat Puolassa usein aliarvostettuja. Lahjan pitää olla näyttävä, huomattava, ei tosi simppeli:-) Suomalainen ystäväni (taiteen tuntija ja keräilijä) sanoi minulle, että minimalistinen taideteos antaa tilaa ajatella ja pohtia asioita. Monimutkaiseen kyllästyy nopeammin. Mielenkiintoinen näkökulma. Lyhyesti voi sanoa, että suomalaisille liika on liika, kuitenkin muille joskus vähän, voi olla liian vähän ...
